EVALUATION OF CIRCUIT ACTIVATION AND RADIOTOXICITY IN THE LBE COOLED XADS EXPERIMENTAL ACCELERATOR DRIVEN SYSTEM USING MONTE CARLO METHOD MCBJerzy Cetnar, Grażyna Domańska Department of Energy and Fuel, AGH University of Science and Technology, 30 A. Mickiewicza Ave., 30-059 Kraków, Poland The choice of suitable coolant is one of the important questions of nuclear technology. The purpose of this paper is to study the activity and the radiotoxicity generated by a lead-bismuth coolant in the primary loop of experimental accelerator driven system (XADS). Calculations for Pb-Bi activation in the hard proton-neutron accelerator driven system (ADS) spectrum were performed using the MCB code (Monte-Carlo continuous energy burnup code). The results show that the highest radiotoxicity will by associated with alpha-emitting polonium isotopes. 210Po is generated under low energy neutron exposure. Radiotoxicity of 210Po will by reduced by five orders of magnitude after about 8 y of cooling, but still a high level (results of 210mBi decay) will be maintained over million years. Close X |
